It may seem like all your shows are coming to an end and summer is reliant on summer blockbusters for science fiction entertainment, but I’m here to tell you about five series premiering this summer (and just a bit after that) to get excited about.
1. Preacher
Yeah, I wasn’t super into the pilot, but this is a deeply loved comic series with a killer cast of characters. The gory romp has plenty of room to grow after its May 22nd premiere after being picked up for ten episodes. The Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg driven dark comedy will likely find a summer audience on AMC for those who are desperately waiting for The Walking Dead…ahem…me…
2. BrainDead
I didn’t even know this show was going to be a thing until I was stalking Mary Elizabeth Winstead before the premiere of 10 Cloverfield Lane, but now I’m sort of obsessed. Airing on NBC for 13 episodes, the dramedy was created by Robert and Michelle King…the creators of The Good Wife. It’s about Congress members who have been taken over by some sort of “bug.” Here’s the title of the first episode, “The Insanity Principle: How Extremism in Politics is Threatening Democracy in the 21st Century.” You’ve got to be a little intrigued, right?
3. Westworld
It looks like fall of 2016 may be the year that HBO finally lets us see this futuristic western. I’m so excited to see what Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have cooked up and even more thrilled to see what the talented cast, including Anthony Hopkins and Thandie Newton, can do with it. It looks like we’ll get ten episodes sometime in the fall.
2. Outcast
I really, really enjoyed this pilot. I’m going to have to find a way to Cinemax to watch this season after it premieres on June 3rd. Robert Kirkman has now taken on demons and dark forces for this spooky drama that will have you saying, “What the f***?” more than once per episode. You can tune in for the first ten episode season and prepare yourself for season two since it’s already been renewed.
1. Luke Cage
I mean, duh. After Daredevil and Jessica Jones, this big man has extra big shoes to fill. The premiere happens on September 30th, which is a mere nine days after summer technically ends, and all 13 episodes will hit Netflix and you can binge your Marvel-loving heart out.
No fear guys! We’re all going to make it to premiere season!
