Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts Will Be Found Next November

The word “prequel” isn’t one that’s used with overwhelming fondness, is it? It’s rare that fans get a prequel that is deserving of the infatuation the original deserved, but maybe there is one person who can pull it off…J.K. Rowling.

As you must know by now, Rowling has adapted her short fictional textbook into a full-length film. Next November, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will look to enchant Harry Potter fans once more. The movie will be directed by David Yates who is already very familiar with the Potter universe as he directed the final four films in the franchise. Since the story takes place in the 1920s which is well before Harry’s time a new cast will have the challenge of stepping up and filling some very big, magical shoes. Eddie Redmayne, who could be spending all his free time polishing his Academy Award, will instead play leading eccentric wizard Newt Scamander.

The film adaptation will follow Newt to New York City where he is to meet a high ranking official within the Magical Congress of the United States. When magical creatures escape into the nonmagical world tensions between Muggles and Wizards reach an all-time high and Newt is caught in the middle. He enlists the help of friends from both sides to catch the creatures and unite both worlds.

This will be Rowling’s screenwriting debut and the first film in what hopes to become a trilogy. The book from which the series is adapted is a fictional text, written by Newt Scamander, that details a variety of magical beings, their dwellings and other strange facts. Starring as Newt’s love interest, Porpentina, is Katherine Waterson and her younger sister, Queenie, will be played by Alison Sudol. Also featured are Ezra Miller, Ron Perlman, Colin Farrell and Jon Voight.

Warner Brothers’ Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be released in theaters November 18th, 2016.
