If you’re an active World of Warcraft player just like I am, then here’s a little Blizzard promotion that you definitely want to check out. After receiving the Recruit A Friend notification from the Blizzard newsletter, I have to admit that instead of usually glancing over such e-mails fairly quickly, the image of the Obsidian Nightwing mount tickled my interest. Read on to find out why this offer is so enticing as well as how you will be eligible to have that mount waiting eagerly in your in-game mailbox.
So how exactly does the system work?
On the negative side of things, you won’t be able to use this referral procedure to recruit inactive accounts – hence why the Scroll of Resurrection was invented. Instead, your friend would need to create an entirely new World of Warcraft account to receive a Starter Edition activation key that allows them to play the game for free until they hit level 20. In a nutshell, both your account and your friend’s account will then be linked for 90 days from the date that the recruited account was created and you’ll be able to enjoy certain in-game benefits such as friend summoning – summoning one another to any location across the WoW continents. So far so good, but the free benefits end here. In order to be eligible for the epic flying mount, your friend would also need to upgrade the game to the retail version as well as purchase 60 days of game time to prove that they have become active subscribers. Once that is all set in stone, you as a veteran player simply log in to Battle.net and claim your reward!
Okay, so you would need to twist your friend’s arm a little and put up a really convincing act. Well, besides the mount and summoning perk, your recruit could also grant you levels if your character is under 79 and you will also be entitled to 30 days of free gameplay. To top it all off, you and your friend will gain triple the experience upon quest completions if the both of you are in a party and within 100 yards of one another. If you find the 1-60 grind tiring just like I do, this perk will certainly come in handy since it ensures faster leveling. Essentially, the promotion is made to further convince your friend to play beyond the level 20 limit while you, the recruiter, will also be rewarded generously after succeeding with your persuasive skill set. The full Recruit A Friend FAQ can be found here along with the Rewards FAQ here.
So while it may seem that the two-seater mount would be an undeniably cool edition to your mount collection, there is always a catch when it comes to Blizzard and their little promotions. Nevertheless, if you have friends who are interested in WoW but have never given it a go, this would be the perfect opportunity to invite them to the game.
