Philip K. Dick’s Back On The Screen

Have an Amazon Prime account? No? Well, you may want one —because Philip K. Dick’s creations just came exclusively to Amazon Prime Members. As of January 11th, this year, the first season of Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams is available for streaming and looks to be another addition to the growingly popular “sub-genre” of anthology shows. Each episode taking one of his tales and bringing it to the visual world.

Now, before I go any further, you may have just asked: “who’s Philip K. Dick?”

Well, he’s a rather important science fiction author from the 1900’s. Even if you don’t know the man, you know his work. Philip K. Dick helped create the classics of Blade Runner and Total Recall through his novella Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and his short story We’ll Remember It for You Wholesale, respectively. He’s had…shall we say…a strong influence on science fiction.

Philip K Dick’s Work Helped Shape Modern Stories

And, while I realize it may be hard (if you don’t already) to justify paying for Amazon Prime to get at this series, it may still be worth it. The show, in its early moments of existence —having only been out for a day as of this writing —has a generally positive critical consensus. With anthology series like this, the quality can vary widely from episode to episode, and the order you watch them in can make all the difference in how you might perceive it overall. But, that doesn’t take away from the potential highs. If you are a hardcore Philip K. Dick fan, or simply a person who’d like to recapture the feeling of viewing The Twilight Zone from your past (even if only recent past —it is on Netflix), and have some old-school, classic science fiction in your life, there’s a whole artist’s world to go explore.

Just maybe bring a ray-gun along with you. It can get dangerous out there. Or inside your own mind.
