Neil Gaiman’s American Gods Heads to Starz

It’s an exciting time if you’re a Neil Gaiman fan, because American Gods is finally coming to television. If the previous sentence meant nothing to you, then let me tell you why you should be just as thrilled as the rest of us.

Debatably Gaiman’s greatest book, American Gods is a fantastical adventure through the world we thought we knew. It’s an enchanting mix of old mythology and new slightly societal commentary and it is weaved into a story the reader becomes so very invested in. Shadow Moon is a man who is down on his luck and a mysterious man named Mr. Wednesday injects himself into his life. The path they walk is certainly unexpected.

The channel Starz just recently announced that the series had in fact been given the green light and it is expected to be released sometime in late 2016. Co-creator Bryan Fuller has a hard time becoming fully accepted by networks, but Starz is where he could shine. His previous series, Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, and the recently (and devastatingly) canceled Hannibal were all audience darlings that left us too soon. Other creator Michael Green is adding the show to his plate whilst he is busy writing the sequel to Blade Runner as well as 2012’s Prometheus, so…no pressure.

So far there have been no casting decisions or announcements of how many episodes the first season will consist of. Fuller did tell CraveOnline that the series would expand upon the book as well as its companion, Anansi Boys. Fuller also mentioned that Gaiman is very involved with the project and he hopes that he will even write an episode, “He god damn well better.” Fuller released some of the dark and eerie concept art via his Twitter.

Okay, now are you ridiculously excited?
