Is Overwatch Overwhelmed with Hype?

It happened… Overwatch has been unleashed and people are losing their freaking minds over it.

The game set the world ablaze after it was announced at 2014’s BlizzCon. Of course the legions of dedicated Blizzard fans pounced and created an insurmountable aura of hype that all led up to the May 24th release date. So, what’s the verdict?

So far so good. Critics are pretty psyched about the multiplayer first-person shooter. Metacritic is hanging out at a 90/100 rating and some publications like Game Informer and The Escapist have given it a perfect score. Players are more than thrilled judging by the amount of Let’s Plays and Twitch streams popping up. Not to mention the insane amount of cosplay and fan art plastered over social media. The beta alone brought in 9.7 million players, so you can bet sales will be insane. Get a look at the trailer.

Overwatch is a fiercely character-driven game that uses objectives to drive teams forward in play. The Overwatch was a group created by the United Nations to protect humanity from the threat of highly intelligent robots who caused the Omnic Crisis. The once revered group is now disbanded under mysterious circumstances. Now humanity needs them once more and its up to teams of players to answer the call.

Your team has the choice of a few different modes like Assault where you can try and capture two targets while evading the defending team. Or you can choose to Escort a payload against defenders. The Assault/Escort mode allows one team to capture a payload and then escort it amongst the chaos of another team coming after you. A Control mode pits teams against one another to take command of a control point and successfully defend it in order to win the most matches out of three.

Are you on the hype train or are you not even walking by the station?
