In Connor We Trust: Up Close and Personal with the Assassin’s Creed 3 Limited Edition Commemorative Coin

Assassin’s Creed III fans, rejoice! The day you have all been waiting for has finally arrived as Connor Kenway makes his way across the shelves at your local gaming superstores. After being apart of the first twenty in line for the game’s midnight launch at my nearest Best Buy, I can honestly admit that I have never been this excited over a coin (alongside my actual copy of AC 3 of course). Ubisoft has outdone themselves this time around not only with their record breaking pre-order sales that more than doubled the sales for its previous installment, AC Revelations, but also in the amount of creative effort that went into creating additional limited edition treats for Assassin’s Creed loyalists across the globe. Lets take a closer look at the Limited Edition Commemorative Coin that was exclusively distributed by Best Buy retailers at the midnight launch events.

Note: The following images are true to their colors and remain unedited.

The cardboard that holds the coin firmly in place is similar to the size of a postcard, bearing rough dimensions of 15 x 10 centimeters. Connor’s depiction is met with articulate detail and as many of us have already witnessed through the multitude of trailers, screenshots and other previews, our protagonist’s pose, background, weapons and overall illustration no longer greets us with any extra surprises.

Similarly, the detail on the back reiterates the longtime favorite Assassin’s Creed symbol that many of us have grown rather fond of – this time of course with the addition of the roman numeral ‘3’ and accompanying stars that invites us to a setting extremely close to home. Nothing too unfamiliar in the overall covers but lets shift our attention to the focal point in this exclusive giveaway.

As we unveil the interior, we see yet another portrait of an agile Connor along with the circular capsule that holds our commemorative coin in place. It is safe to say that Ubisoft did not hold back on their aesthetic abilities since every panel of illustration depict little to no flaws.

The coin itself is surprisingly weighty, constructed purely from a form of metal – most likely aluminum. Moreover, the frontal portion features an excellent engraving of our hero Connor Kenway in addition to a new spin on the ever familiar ethos across the United States: “In Connor We Trust.” We will indeed be placing our hopes and faith in his hands or in this particular circumstance, his trusty tomahawk and infamous hidden blades. All I can say is that this is no cheap plastic coin and it will certainly be a one badass addition to your coin collection.

As for the coin’s back, nothing could replace the unique yet classic Assassin’s Creed 3 symbol that demonstrates your allegiance to this everlasting franchise. Simplicity is the way to go and Ubisoft’s aesthetic combination would do little to dampen the spirit of fans not just in America, but worldwide.

All in all, what negative criticism can be conjured from this rare and free giveaway? For those who did not get the opportunity to seize this item for themselves, do not fret for we will more importantly be united in our epic adventures amongst the backdrop of revolution. Happy hunting!

A constant tumblr junkie ever since I created an account a couple of weeks ago. I'm an avid movie-goer, read a variety of books when I have the time and watch a range of television programs. Being the child of a father who owns more than 900 star wars/star trek and other sci-fi novels combined, as well as growing up alongside a brother who taught me to play video games since i was 8, its definitely hard NOT to love these genres.
