The new Walking Dead spinoff, super creatively titled Fear the Walking Dead, will premiere later this August. Check out the brief teaser released in March.
The short preview makes it seem like the show will be more focused on the beginning of the virus, which we missed out on when we jumped into the story once Rick Grimes rose from his coma amidst all the chaos, which, honestly, I don’t think we need. We’ve seen so many stories where the origin of the zombies *ahem* excuse me, walkers, is the main focus that The Walking Dead was different because it concentrated on what was actually so frightening about an apocalypse, the collapse of humanity and the fight to try and exist. The walkers are a mere nuisance compared to the terrible acts humans commit against one another.
However, I make these claims just as a rabid fan of the series. The exact plot isn’t known yet. Teasers have been released over on AMC’s YouTube channel and there’s one titled “Nick’s Escape” which is a 30-second clip of a man running while frightened, but we don’t see what he’s running from. It doesn’t make me want to watch anything, except maybe COPS.
Another short teaser enhances my fear of it being focused on the origin story. A young man tells his guidance counselor, Madison (played by Kim Dickens), that a mysterious disease has spread amongst five states. She assures him it’s nothing. Madison and her family will be the main protagonists of the series. In another teaser, Madison and her fiancé are driving by a number of MISSING posters and what appears to be a drunk scarecrow. What is your plan, Robert Kirkman?!
Here’s the latest “teaser” released featuring Madison.
God damnit, it’s going to be an origin story.
As previously mentioned the show will feature Madison, her fiancé, Travis (Cliff Curtis), her son, Nick (Frank Dilane), and daughter, Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey). Original creator Robert Kirkman will return to produce the series. There are already two seasons contracted to air with the first season consisting of six episodes and the second season is scheduled to premiere in 2016.
