Foundations: The 5 Best Multicolored Cards

Foundations Brings Powerful Cards To The Format

Foundations actually has a lot of multicolored cards—including some legendary creature reprints that I think have interesting implications for standard. But in regard to the top five cards I think will see a lot of play through Foundations’ lifetime, most of the ones I picked are low-cost, helpful cards with a strong impact on the board. Only the final one on this list is big and flashy. Though it is quite big and quite flashy.

Boros Charm

I already noted in my red Foundations list that aggro/burn are viable strategies, and this card sees play in those types of lists. That four damage for two mana is killer. The other abilities are also pretty dang good. Both of them can absolutely win the game if used at the right time.

Dryad Militant

Good stats make this creature useful in low-to-the-ground aggro, but the obvious use case is making sure that recursion is impossible for combo decks, or just spell decks. It’s actually especially useful against the next card on this list.

Enigma Drake

I love Izzet, and I love winning with massive one-shot damage. Enigma Drake serves as a great payoff to a deck that already wants to play a lot of spells. Its four toughness also means that, until it’s ready to strike, it can serve as a decent defensive creature.

Maelstrom Pulse

Anytime tokens get out of hand, this card will come in to handle it. There are also scenarios where someone is just running a lot of playsets in their deck, and this can randomly kill multiple targets. But, even if you don’t expect either of those things to matter, this is a three-mana answer to all permanent types. All of them.

Progenitus

Ah, here’s the massive creature I was mentioning. Don’t play this card normally—you have to find some way to get it into play earlier. And I’m sure, at some point in Foundations’ lifetime, there’ll be some combo that allows you to do that reliably, and it’ll be a lot of fun. Protection from everything is really hard to deal with—though sacrifice effects do work, just so you know.

And those are the best multicolored Foundations cards, at least according to my estimation. They offer some of the most versatile and powerful options for standard games. That said, if you haven’t looked at all the multicolored cards in this set, you should. It’s super cool to see so many toolbox options.
