Didn’t See The Falcon Heavy Launch? We’ve Got You Covered!

Well, here comes the future again: Elon Musk launched his new super-powered, absurdly strong, Falcon Heavy rocket, and the test went well. So, in the future, we can expect more space flights to wow us—finally. I for one was getting annoyed that we hadn’t had a big space thing in our collective culture in a while.

And, for all of us that either don’t live in Florida, or do, and just do not have the time or resources to get as close of a view of a rocket launch as it is healthy to get, I’ve got a recap for you.

So, let’s enjoy some space travel. This first video of the launch put a smile on my face from the sheer awesomeness of it.

But, this is not just about a truly impressive feat of engineering. As all good stories go, the focus lands on people. So many worked hard to make the Falcon Heavy launch possible, make it work, make it such a magnificent thing that didn’t explode. But, that said, the media is the media, and Elon Musk is the face of this for good reason. So, let’s watch his take on things (warning: bleeped out language).

My favorite part of this—because I am a massive nerd—is Starman. A dummy astronaut is orbiting around us as I am writing this down, and likely as you are reading this. And he has Don’t Panic on his dashboard. If I did not have a soft spot in my heart for Elon before, there is now.

And, if you want to keep track of our brave driver, you can see him flying along in real-time—at least while the camera works.

Like I said at the beginning: here’s the future again. Even if things haven’t gone as well as wanted, and there’s a lot left to do in our civilization to make it better, 2018 might yet be amazing.

And, as naive as some may think it is, that tweet and our potential for another space race in this century makes me truly, unironically, optimistic about humanity’s future.
