Big Hero 6 Is For Everyone

This weekend there were two major contenders at the box office battling it out for the top spot. Christopher Nolan’s space epic, Interstellar, had plenty of people talking and it’s received Oscar buzz in its opening weekend, which is incredible! So, it’s surprising that it got beat out by an animated inflatable superhero who can hardly squeeze into his armor.

Disney’s Big Hero 6 claimed number one raking in $56.2 million this past weekend. The movie is based on a Marvel comic which was released in 1998. In BH6 we follow Hiro Hamada, a young orphaned boy who finds out he has a flair for robotics. Hiro deals with his tough luck with the help of the aforementioned superhero robot, Baymax. Hiro and his friends run into trouble and must rely on each other to take on a masked villain and become the super team known as Big Hero 6.

The film is beautiful, heartfelt, and healing. The story offers as much for adults as it does for children, perhaps even more. Be warned that some of the content can be heavy, like the fact that Hiro grew up without parents and the battle scenes can be intense and frightening for little ones. With that being said, you have to take everyone you know to this film.

It’s like The Avengers for beginners. It’s endearing and empowering. Sure, Hiro is down on his luck, but he won’t quit! Hiro is refreshing as a protagonist that gets everything thrown at him and still he shows incredible strength where many people even three times his age would falter. Baymax is easy to love and never overly anything. He’s just enough for everyone. You’ll see yourself and your friends in Hiro, Baymax, Go Go, Honey Lemon, Fred and Wasabi. If you feel like going to a movie that feels like a warm hug, then take those you care about to Big Hero 6.
