The Magnus Protocol Reviews: “Rolling With It”
“Rolling With It” is a throwback episode. It’s so much like a Magnus Archives episode on purpose. You can easily draw parallels to so many other statements in delivery and pacing.

Hello, dear reader. Today, we have something a little more serious than our last two-parter.

Battle of the Bands is basically a standard cartoon episode. After the main antagonist left the planet in Heart of Iron, I suspected things would turn out like this. And, frankly, this is better. I like it a lot more.

“Running On Empty” was different from the beginning. I’d grown used to the usual pattern. We check in on Sam and Alice, and then we cut to a spooky story. But this time, we go right into things with yet another new story template.

Last time, we talked briefly about how some science fiction stories are just normal stories with a different coat of paint. And, just like last time, that statement has no bearing on the story presented.

Heart of Iron partially reverses the downward slide after the abysmal Chasing Ghosts. It’s not as good as Initiation, but at least the plot setups actually go somewhere. It doesn’t feel like scenes are wasting the viewer’s time.

“Give and Take” is the most aggressive theory-baiting episode I think I’ve ever heard from this franchise. Maybe back in Archives, there was a dialogue passage that was purely meant to get the mind going, but I doubt it was this blatant.

“Introductions” is so aptly named and so appreciated. I was waiting, waiting, waiting for something like this to happen. The Magnus Protocol gave us a solid core villain to enjoy.

This story is bleak, dear reader. In it, the world is ending. Most people haven’t survived—and it’s all because of one change. One pivotal alteration to our world caused everything to fall apart.

Marvel Rising: Chasing Ghosts is terrible. I don’t like being this negative, but wow, is this the worst of the Marvel Rising projects I’ve watched. As a follow-up to Initiation, it’s just baffling how poorly everything was handled.
