Aliens: Colonial Marines Promises Ultimate Fun and Fear

From the big screen to our very own gaming consoles, Gearbox’s upcoming shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines will definitely make it onto the wish lists of gamers worldwide. But the big question here is: can the game live up to the horror and fear that was captured so perfectly in Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979) as well as James Cameron’s Aliens (1986)?  Following the previews and gameplay demo that was unveiled at E3, it is safe to state that flipping off the switches to play this game in the dark might just be the trick to appreciate this game to the fullest.

 What we have gathered so far is that the story of Aliens: Colonial Marines takes place after the events of Alien³ (1992). Although Vasquez, Hudson and the marines who pieced the dynamic plot of Aliens together will not be present, the story will be narrated from the perspective of Corporal Christopher Winter and his respective team of marines who have been dispatched to search for our heroine Ellen Ripley, Corporal Hicks and ultimately discover the fate of the missing marines. That said, Gearbox assures that players will bump into sentimental features that pay tribute to the original movie series such as the space vessel U.S.S Sulaco – the main starship that was introduced in the earlier stages of Aliens – as well as the familiar atmosphere of LV-426 where all the fun and action was triggered. The premise certainly presents a very attractive first impression for Alien fans, as it would make us feel that we’re taking part in our very own movie that was never made in between Aliens and Alien³.

From surprise facehuggers to our favorite xenomorphs, players will also be given the opportunity to utilize the iconic motion-tracking device and base our judgment on the beeping that warns us about aliens in the vicinity.  May be it left, right, above or even below, this is one game that is going to send chills up your spine due to the anticipation, paranoia and sheer excitement. Alright, so when it boils down to games versus movies, we can’t fully deny the game adaptation will be able to replicate the tension and fear of the original two movies. As far as we can tell, however, Gearbox has certainly prepared us for a dangerous and life-risking journey against a myriad of breeds that will keep us glued to our controllers. Aliens: Colonial Marines will be released in February 2013.
