Batting a Thousand
Well, my friends, we’re here. Take a look back and see how far we’ve come. Seems like many years have passed, doesn’t it? That’s because they have.
On the second day of the twelfth month of the year that we humans decided should have the numerical designation of 2009, Hans Henrik wrote the very first piece featured on Sci-Fi Bloggers. This site has seen a thousand more since then. A lot has changed: we now have more writers than before, our articles are more in-depth, we feature original fiction and illustrations, our formatting has become more consistent and more organized, and our fan base has grown significantly. I really want to emphasize that last part, not because of some egotistical, “Oh, look how popular we are,” reason. That’s not what this is about. The point of me mentioning our fan base is because our fan base is you. I’m going to be quite frank here, so bear with me: the only reason any of us do what we do, really, is for you. It’s not that we have anyone to please or anything, as propitiation is a thing of little importance to us. We’ll challenge consensus where consensus needs challenging, regardless of who disagrees with us. That being said, if you weren’t here, where would we be? Nowhere, that’s where, if “nowhere” were a where. God, that was bad. Okay, we’re just going to forget I did that. Anyway, we’d be nowhere. We’d have nothing. This site is a product of co-creation. It is just as much yours as it is ours. I know that probably sounds real cheesy to the more cynical-minded, but it’s the truth, at least to me.
So, for the old-timers out there, the veterans of the site, thanks for sticking around this long. For those of you just joining us, welcome. There are many words I would like to use to describe and express the appreciation I have for you guys, for you, but since the notion of sounding overly sentimental is making my stomach turn, I’ll just say, “You people rock so hard, you be like the third rock from the sun.”
Yeah, can’t get much worse than that.
Well, my friends, we’re here. Take a look ahead and see how far we can go. Seems like an infinite road, doesn’t it? That’s because it is.
